Support for renewable energy communities

ConPlusUltra supports renewable energy communities in 4 municipalities
The Renewable Energy Expansion Act 2021 (EAG) enables so-called energy communities (EEG) in Austria. In simple terms, this means sharing electricity between neighbours. Renewable energy communities are seen as the driving force behind the energy transition from the bottom up.
Since autumn 2021, our experts Andreas Kirchleitner and Josef Buchinger have been supporting the establishment of four EEGs in their home communities and the surrounding area.
What began with initial discussions with acquaintances or mayors is now taking on ever more concrete proportions.
The aim of our consulting services is to start two EEGs in the municipalities of Oberpullendorf (Burgenland) and one each in Randegg and Gresten (both Lower Austria).
ConPlusUltra organises information events, collects data, collects and simulates potentials and holds talks with interested parties, local councillors and grid operators.

Objectives of the renewable energy communities
The aims of the EEGs are basically to make the future electrical energy supply more sustainable and regional. Each EEG has very different approaches, as the structures and potential for renewable energy generation vary depending on the location and environment. In Oberpullendorf, for example, there is an initiator association and only PV potential.
In Randegg and Gresten, the municipalities are the initiators for promoting the topic of energy communities. The aim in Randegg in the initial phase is to establish several small (local) EEGs in the three town centres. Gresten would like to establish a large (regional) energy community.
Various ideas and innovations are to be driven forward as part of the realisation process. One of these is real-time data collection and active consumer control. With this idea, switchable consumers (e.g. pumps, heating elements, ...) are to be actively controlled if more energy is available in the energy community through photovoltaics and hydropower than is consumed.

These projects are funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and implemented as part of the "Energy Communities 2021" program.
If you are also interested in an EEG, please contact Andreas Kirchleitner or Josef Buchinger without obligation.

About energy communities:
The Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG) adopted in July 2021 creates the possibility for citizens, municipal institutions and local companies to join together to form citizen energy communities (BEG) or renewable energy communities (EEG) in order to share and exchange renewable energy with each other and thus greatly improve the overall use of renewables. The main idea here is that energy should be generated locally and consumed locally, thereby increasing the proportion of self-consumption of e.g. photovoltaic electricity. This reduces electricity costs and grid fees for participants in such an energy community and incentivises them to invest in local, renewable energy systems. Last but not least, regionally generated energy from sun, water or wind also makes people less dependent on expensive energy imports.
