UNIDO project on “Promotion of Waste-to-Energy“ in Kinshasa

Participants of the workshop „Waste-to-Energy“ were governmental stakeholders, local companies, NGOs and members from civil society engaged in waste collection and recycling, as well as industrial companies interested to implement WTE pilot projects. The detailed project proposal is currently under development and will support the Provincial Government of Kinshasa to improve its municipal solid waste management system by introducing sorting facilities and appropriate transportation infrastructure to allow waste residues (mainly organic and plastic wastes) being transformed into useful energy sources by local businesses and industries.

ConPlusUltra Gmbh, in partnership with hydrophil and Technical University of Vienna, has been contracted by UNIDO to develop a project document to be submitted to and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), including a market assessment of the solid waste management system and development of specific business cases for waste-to-energy applications in Congo. The 4-year project is expecting approval by summer 2019 and starting implementation in early 2020.
