Climate protection strategy Inquiry

Climate strategy as a competitive advantage for your company

Two out of three Austrian companies see new business opportunities in the current sustainability trend, but only one in three has a sustainability or climate protection strategy (E&Y, 2021).

The aim of a climate protection strategy is to position your company credibly, responsibly and innovatively towards customers, investors or business partners. Based on your company’s annual carbon footprint, we can advise you on the design of climate protection strategies and on the definition of targets to complement your existing management system. This should support the long-term goal of making your company climate neutral on its own.

OUR APPROACH TO A HOLISTIC CLIMATE STRATEGY

ConPlusUltra can support you in the development of customized climate protection targets, which it will useto develop a holistic climate strategy. This includes actions in the areas of production, procurement, supply chains, logistics, and employees. Thus, the scope of the existing ISO 14001 or other management systems is extended.

The international criteria of the Science Based Target Initiative are used as the basis for valid and effective climate target definition. More than 1500 companies of various sizes and from all sectors are members of SBTi. The initiative offers a comparison with other companies, sector-specific tools and guidelines for climate target definition, which are in line with the international climate target. According to the targets, concrete measures and recommendations for action are identified to reduce CO2 emissions, following the hierarchy of avoid-reduce-compensate.

Examples for climate action:

  • long-term process changes
  • Energy efficiency measures in production and buildings
  • Use of lower-emission vehicles
  • Awareness raising among employees
  • Compensation of CO2 emissions that still cannot be reduced (e.g. purchase of certificates)

Annual monitoring as a basis

The regular update of the CO2 data in the Corporate Carbon Footprint is the basis for reviewing the climate strategy and also serves to measure success over the years.

An annual revision enables long-term monitoring and identifies new potential for improvement. Each year, the quality and scope of data collection is proportionately expanded and improved. This creates the foundation for company-wide, long-term climate management.
